The midterm elections are stirring conversations across the country, but what’s appropriate when it comes to talking about politics at work? Atlanta partner Matt Simpson spoke with WABE (NPR) and 11Alive to examine the boundaries for engaging in political speech while at work. He tells reporters: "The First Amendment protects people only from government interference with speech, not employer interference. In most states, private employers can prohibit the discussion of politics at work.” More often than not, “Employers tend to prefer employees check their political beliefs at the door, but only about 30 percent of employers have policies, either written or verbal, that address the issue.”
