In an interview with SHRM, Brett Wendt discusses the impact on employers as voters in certain states decide whether to approve medical or recreational marijuana use. In the article, Brett explains that “[w]ith the majority of states already having legalized cannabis, and five more states voting on legalization this November, it has become increasingly important for employers to clarify their policies." He goes on to describe how laws addressing cannabis vary from state to state and he suggests that employers consider treating marijuana use as they would alcohol or prescription drugs by focusing their policies on behaviors of intoxication and/or impairment.
