In an interview with Bloomberg Law, Jay Glunt discussed the U.S. Department of Labor’s consideration of changes to child labor rules, which attorneys say would likely be the first major deregulatory move in this area in decades. The DOL's latest regulatory agenda signaled it was reconsidering Fair Labor Standards Act limits around work hours for 14- and 15-year-olds, classifying it as a deregulatory action. Jay noted that increased enforcement under the prior administration was enough to get some companies to stop employing minors altogether.
"If we follow these boundaries, it should permit the employment relationship which would be safe and productive for the minor and healthy for the employer," he said.
