International labor and employment firm Fisher Phillips is pleased to welcome R. Nelson Williams as the Regional Managing Partner and leader of the firm’s expansion into St. Louis, Missouri.
"Our new presence in St. Louis is a direct response to what our clients in the region deserve – to have trusted, on-the-ground legal counsel close to home,” said John Polson, Chairman and Managing Partner of Fisher Phillips. “We have a long history of serving companies with operations across the state, and we felt that – with Nelson’s arrival - it was the right time to make things ‘official’ here in St. Louis. It’s important for us to be where our clients are to give them even greater access to the full-service support we are known for in Missouri, and we are grateful to have Nelson leading the charge for the firm.”
Nelson joins from an international law firm where he was a partner in the Employment & Labor Practice Group. He is a litigator with a strong track record of guiding clients through every stage of the trial process in state and federal courts in single-plaintiff to complex, multi-party matters. He has significant experience defending wage and hour class and collective actions under the FLSA and state laws, securing numerous favorable outcomes, including defeating a number of class certification and collective action claims.
“Nelson is a first chair litigator who is known for seamlessly guiding businesses through their most complex disputes, and having him on the team will enhance our ability to provide sophisticated, high-level counsel to both local and national clients with business interests in Missouri and beyond,” said Jim Holland, Regional Managing Partner of the firm’s Kansas City office. “The arrival of someone of his caliber is the perfect entry for us into the St. Louis market, and, as a natural leader, he will undoubtedly play a large role in helping us attract talent and grow our impact in the region.”
Nelson defends employers in a broad range of matters involving the ADEA, ADA, FMLA, and Title VII. He is known for developing practical, client-focused strategies tailored to business objectives spanning various industries including telecommunications, software, banking, and agriculture.
“I am thrilled to join Fisher Phillips, and to bring fresh representation to St. Louis,” said Nelson. “I am deeply committed to our region and cannot wait to lead our efforts in servicing clients while backed by the incredible global footprint of my Fisher Phillips colleagues.”
Nelson is actively involved in diversity and mentorship initiatives, most recently having served as Chair of a nonprofit supporting justice-involved youth. He has also been selected for Missouri Lawyers’ Diversity & Inclusion Awards, and will be featured in an upcoming editorial highlighting “the individuals who shape, lead and elevate diversity and inclusion in Missouri’s legal community.” He will receive this honor at the publication’s ceremony in August.
Nelson earned his J.D. from Washington University in St. Louis and his B.A. from Duke University.
