On October 1, the Treasury Department released proposed regulations for the "Big Beautiful Bill's" federal tax-credit scholarship program, which, starting January 1, 2027, could expand private-school assistance for families in participating states. The rules clarify the roles of states and Scholarship Granting Organizations but leave some questions unanswered.
The proposal isn't final; written comments and a public hearing are coming later this year. But with the credit taking effect January 1, schools and SGOs have a short runway to prepare.
