Dave Dorey | Partner | Washington, D.C.
I began my career at a large international firm and then went into government.
I started my career in Washington, D.C. at a large international law firm before becoming a political appointee at the U.S. Department of Labor and later the Department of Homeland Security, where I ran the policy arm as Chief of Staff for Strategy, Policy, and Plans. Then, before joining FP, I led the labor and employment practice at a boutique firm in Maryland.
The resources here are just unparalleled in labor and employment.
What drew me to FP was the depth and breadth of the platform. The firm’s ability to provide top-level labor and employment advice across the board – with real subject matter mastery and real resources behind it – is unmatched. In a smaller firm, it’s simply harder to deliver that level of service consistently. Here, the support is there, and it allows you to broaden your client base, help colleagues with theirs, and grow together.
Everyone here wants you to succeed.
One thing that really stands out – and maybe this is unique among large firms – is how kind, supportive, and invested people are in one another’s success. That’s been my experience from the day I started. It’s not just talk; it’s how the firm actually operates.
My transition was seamless.
The firm provided tremendous support during the transition. From gathering files and onboarding existing clients to staffing matters appropriately, the process was smooth and thoughtful. There has been no lack of resources, no friction, and no hesitation when help is needed. If I need support on a matter, it’s there.
Cross-selling and collaboration happen naturally here.
From the start, people across offices were open to connecting and collaborating. I began working with attorneys in other locations almost immediately, particularly on DC-, Virginia-, and Maryland-based matters. The ability to cross-sell, cross-staff, and support clients nationwide – and even globally – has been remarkable.
The platform really reduces friction in serving clients.
Between the firm’s reputation and its people, providing high-level client service here is simply easier. The firm sells itself. Clients know that if it’s labor and employment, FP has the answer, whether it requires one lawyer or a full team. That’s an incredibly powerful message.
If you want the best place to practice L&E, this is it.
If you’re considering a move, I think you’ll find FP to be a place where you want to come to work – and where you’ll be supported in growing your book of business, your client base, and your knowledge. Quite simply, if you want to practice labor and employment at the highest level, this is the place.
