This Holiday Shopping Season Looks Good for Seasonal Jobs

Publication

11.03.17

In the article, "This Holiday Shopping Season Looks Good for Seasonal Jobs," featured in The Plain Dealer, Melissa Dials advises employers to consider wage and hour issues with respect to their seasonal employees to ensure compliance.

Seasonal employees are often covered by state and federal labor laws, even though they are only working for a company on a temporary basis, said Dials.

"In addition, employers should review other wage and hour issues, such as meal and rest period requirements," Dials wrote in an email. "For example, when employers offer short breaks of 20 minutes or less, federal law considers the breaks to be compensable time that must be considered as hours worked for purposes of calculating overtime."
