Her article “Obama’s Executive Order on equal pay: What does it mean for employers?” was published on May 20, 2014.

President Obama recently signed an executive order amending Section 202 of Executive Order 11246, which now prohibits federal contractors from retaliating against employees who discuss their compensation.

Despite existing legislation such as the Equal Pay Act of 1963 and Lilly Ledbetter Fair Pay Act, U.S. Census statistics indicate that the average, full-time working woman earn 77 cents for every dollar earned by her male counterparts, Shayna wrote.

According to a fact sheet published by the White House, the executive order was intended to combat one of the key barriers to enforcement of equal pay laws – the fact that many women do not even know that they are underpaid.
