Workplace Safety Co-Chair Reminds Employers that Hazard Pay Does Not Replace the Need to Create and Maintain a Safe Work Environment

The idea of employers offering hazard pay for workers deemed essential during the COVID-19 pandemic has been popularized and has even gained bipartisan support in Congress with some members calling for legislation that would allow for “Pandemic Premium Pay” for both private and public-sector workers. In an interview with Bloomberg Law, Todd Logsdon reminds employers that the notion of offering hazard pay should not precede the importance of employers maintaining a safe workplace. He said, “[w]hen it comes to hazard pay, you want to do something to mitigate and eliminate the hazard, not just paying someone more to deal with the hazard of employment.”
