Will Unions Change The NCAA?
An article by Paul Burmeister was featured in the Chicago Daily Law Bulletin.
In a historic move, members of the Northwestern University football team recently took initial steps to form a union and seek collective bargaining rights with the university, Paul wrote.
Shortly there after, the National Labor Relations Board received notification that enough of Northwestern’s football players sought a union election through the National Labor Relations Act.
It is now up to the NLRB to make a determination.
The National Labor Relations Act creates a potential union relationship between an employer and its employees, according to Paul. However, the definition of employees under the act is somewhat broad.
