Summer Interns Wanted: Companies Rev Up Hiring
Fort Lauderdale attorney David Gobeo was interviewed in the May 9 South Florida Sun-Sentinel article "Summer Interns Wanted: Companies Rev Up Hiring." The article noted that one sign that the economy is improving is that college students are finding more paid internships this summer. Local college recruiters report that more companies are recruiting for internships that offer pay. David said unpaid internships were more common during the recession, but the Labor Department has been cracking down on firms that fail to pay interns. He noted that legally, employers can arrange an unpaid internship if the student receives college credit and is being trained in a vocational skill.
