Partners Daniel O'Brien, from the Cleveland office, and James Holland, from the Kansas City office, were interviewed in the Compensation.BLR.com article "How to Manage Workers' Compensation Costs." The article reported that workers' compensation has become administratively paper-intensive, burdensome, and expensive for employers. Part of the reason is the rising costs of healthcare, but litigation has also added to the burden. Jim said it's important to thoroughly understand your workers' compensation insurance policy and consider hiring a workers' compensation consultant. Dan advised employers to establish a good working relationship with a primary care doctor who will serve the company for workers' compensation claims. He noted, "He who controls primary care controls the claim costs." Both attorneys stressed the importance of a rigorous safety program that puts safety on par with productivity and customer service.
