Halloween Costumes and Parties in the Workplace

News

10.15.11

Las Vegas attorney Whitney Selert was interviewed for a podcast on Vegas Inc. about Halloween costumes and parties in the workplace. He noted that, although celebrating at work can be a good morale booster, when you relax the normal rules of behavior in the workplace, things can get out of hand. Sometimes when people put on a costume, changes of behavior come with it. Whit said, "It's a good idea to put some limits out front and communicate those guidelines clearly to employees so they know what to expect." Employees should be reminded that, even though it's a work sponsored event, it's still work and certain behavior is inappropriate. What guidelines you use depend upon the corporate culture.
