Failure to Pay Safety Fines Could Mean Contempt and Potential Jail Time

The Department of Labor (DOL) has increased its pursuit of harsher penalties, like jail time, for employers who fail to pay delinquent safety fines. In an interview with Bloomberg Law, safety compliance lawyer Benjamin Ross explained that “[w]hat has previously been a rare occurrence -the government’s pursuit of contempt and criminal charges against an employer for safety violations – is seeing a recent increase.”
