Denver Attorney Provides Tips for Managing Workers’ After-Hours Use of Mobile Devices
Denver Partner Susan Schaecher was quoted in the SHRM article “Tips for Managing Workers’ After-Hours Use of Mobile Devices” providing tips on how to manage the wage and hour concerns associated with non-exempt employees working on their own devices after work. When asked how to manage employees who use their own devices for work, Susan suggests “that employers not give nonexempt employees access to work emails through their mobile devices unless there's a business need.”
Additionally, Susan recommended that employers clearly communicate their bring-your-own-device policies, monitor employee access to the company information systems, ensure that employees report all their working time and know the consequences of working off the clock.
