Schools have obligations under accreditation standards and state law to background check employees, volunteers, and summer camp workers.  Different laws have different requirements.  In addition, if the school receives any amount of state corporate tax or scholarship funding (McKay, Corporate Tax Scholarship, etc.), the school has additional layers of obligations, both for criminal background processes and relating to training, policies, termination, and separation agreements.  We will discuss each of these issues to bring clarity to an area of law that has changed substantially over the last few years.
