Douglas R. Sullenberger
Partner - In Memoriam
Overview
We are deeply saddened to announce the passing of our longtime friend and partner, Doug Sullenberger, who departed this life on March 23, 2026. A cornerstone of our Atlanta office and our firm’s labor relations group for decades, Doug was an exceptional counselor and a beloved member of the Fisher Phillips family. Above all, he was a man of immense integrity, a loyal colleague, and trusted mentor to many all while serving as a devoted husband and loving father to his children.
Doug’s journey in the law was rooted in a strong academic foundation in Georgia, earning his B.S. from Florida State University in 1970 and his M.S. from Georgia State University in 1974 before graduating from Emory University School of Law in 1977. He dedicated his career to the complexities of traditional labor law, where his example became a benchmark for excellence.
Throughout his tenure at Fisher Phillips, Doug was a vigorous advocate for his clients. Whether navigating the nuances of collective bargaining, handling strike preparations, or representing clients before the National Labor Relations Board, he delivered results with a precision and grit that earned him the highest respect in the legal community. His peers consistently recognized his contributions; he held an “AV” Peer Review Rating from Martindale-Hubbell for over thirty years and was frequently listed among the “Top 100 Labor Attorneys” in the U.S. and in Chambers USA.
Beyond the accolades, Doug was the source of wisdom many of us turned to. He will be remembered as a legal scholar who remained humble and as a partner who prioritized the growth of others through his mentorship. His presence in the Atlanta office and throughout the firm was a constant, and his absence will be felt profoundly.
Our hearts are heavy as we reflect on Doug’s decades of service and friendship. We extend our deepest sympathy and condolences to the entire Sullenberger family.
