Overview

Brett Owens is a partner in the Tampa office and Co-Leader of the Technology Industry Team. He is Board Certified in Labor and Employment Law by the Florida Bar and represents employers in complex employment disputes.

Brett is a trial lawyer who approaches litigation with a clear objective: position cases for early, strategic resolution without losing sight of trial. He has secured early dismissals, favorable verdicts as plaintiff and defense counsel, and successfully upheld trial court decisions on appeal. His litigation practice spans claims involving terminations, wage and hour issues, employment agreements, trade secrets, and restrictive covenants.

Obtained denial of preliminary injunction in complex non-compete dispute for manufacturer’s representative, affirmed on appeal.
Motion to Dismiss granted with prejudice, on behalf of University, for Title IX, ADA, and Rehabilitation Act claims.
Obtained stipulated injunctive relief on behalf of agricultural services company for alleged misappropriation of trade secret claim.
Obtained preliminary injunctive relief and summary judgment on behalf of healthcare technology company enforcing Non-Competition Agreement.
Served as first-chair trial counsel and received prevailing-party attorney’s fees for claims for breach of severance agreement and wages after four-day jury trial.
Motion to Dismiss granted with prejudice for $3.6 million claim for breach of compensation agreement and civil theft against owner of employer.
Motion to Dismiss granted with prejudice for claim for Negligent Hiring, Training, and Supervision against gig economy company.
Summary judgment granted against the EEOC for disability discrimination and joint-employer claims.
