
Overview
Akunna Ofodu defends employers in workplace-related disputes and utilizes her deep understanding of federal and state labor laws to provide proactive advice to business leaders and human resources to ensure effective management of employee relations, risks, and issues. Akunna advises employers against claims of discrimination, harassment, and retaliation, including those involving the Family Medical Leave Act (FMLA), Title VII, the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA), the Age Discrimination in Employment Act (ADEA), and Texas Labor Code. Her experience also includes advising on employee complaint investigations, preventative harassment policies, termination procedures, wage and hour claims, and litigation risk assessment. Additionally, she prepares and reviews employment contracts, handbooks, and non-compete, settlement, and severance agreements.
Before joining Fisher Phillips, Akunna worked at a multi-practice law firm in Houston, Texas where she focused on all aspects of employment discrimination and harassment matters.
