In an interview with Yahoo! Finance, Emily Litzinger discusses how employers should approach work schedules on religious and non-religious holidays. Emily advises that under Title VII of the Civil Rights Act, employers must consider requests for time off from workers who want the day off for a religious holiday. But for holidays without any religious significance, such as Thanksgiving or July Fourth, she said employers have more discretion. “An employer can terminate an employee if he or she refuses to work when assigned.”
