Workplace Safety Co-Chair Discusses OSHA’s New Policy and Higher Safety Fines

In an interview with Bloomberg Law, Travis Vance shares his insights on OSHA’s new policy, which expands the types of violations that qualify as "egregious.” The new policy allows increased fines against employers with histories of endangering workers, and Travis explains that it could especially affect manufacturers with machinery covered by the machine guarding and lockout tagout regulations. "Under the old policy, if an inspector alleged a common hazard for six identical machines, that would likely be one violation. Now, it could be six violations," Travis said.
