Workplace Safety Co-Chair Discusses Employer Frustration About Conflicting COVID-19 Regulations

News

5.12.21

In an interview with Business Insurance, Todd Logsdon discusses how the nationwide patchwork of COVID-19 regulations is causing challenges for companies with multistate operations. Todd explains that employers that operate in multiple states are frustrated because they are dealing with a confusing situation in which some states have completely lifted all restrictions while other states still have a fair amount of their restrictions in place. The article goes on to discuss the patchwork of states that have liability shields that say businesses can’t be sued by workers or patrons for potential COVID-19 exposures. Todd explains that most of the liability shields “include language that the business took reasonable steps to provide a safe place and a lot of those (liability protections) talk about following local, state and federal recommendations and guidelines.” Thus, he encourages employers in those states to pay attention to the specific language and use it to guide them so they might take advantage of the protections provided to them by the liability shield.
