The Occupational Safety and Health Administration has proposed a new rule that has employers on edge. The agency wants hundreds of thousands of employers to electronically submit detailed information to the agency about their workplace injuries and illnesses, Howard wrote.
In news conference, Assistant Secretary of Labor for OSHA, Dr. David Michaels, said the Agency would use the digital data to:
- Identify employers that need voluntary OSHA consultation visits
- Allow companies to compare their injury and illness rates with each other
- Help people decide where they want to work
- Let employees judge whether their workplace accidents were reported to OSHA
