Everybody Gets a Trophy: Effective Performance Management
9:00 a.m. – 10:00 a.m.
Presenter: Bert Brannen
Managing employees is tough, and providing honest and accurate performance management is even tougher. Performance management begins with hiring the right people, clearly articulating expectations, dealing with specific performance issues and, unfortunately, may end with getting rid of those employees who fail to meet the employer’s performance expectations. Learn how you can develop performance processes that will help you get the best out of your employees and help you successfully navigate through the legal minefield that is present in today’s business environment as it relates to disciplining and discharging employees.
13 Strategies to Improve Your Safety Program
10:00 a.m. – 10:45 a.m.
Presenter: Tracy Moon
If OSHA has fallen off your radar screen, it is time to put it back on. The number of OSHA penalties in the tens and hundreds of thousands of dollars has significantly increased in the past year. This session will examine the new enforcement-focused OSHA and new special emphasis programs as well as safety legislation changes currently being debated in Congress. The session will also review the essential elements of OSHA compliance and an effective workplace safety and health program, with an eye to the use of safety issues by unions and a growing group of whistleblowers. The session will explain how, when used properly, safety compliance can be a “profit center” and not another administrative cost.
10:45 a.m. – 11:00 a.m.
Break
ABCs of Policies, Procedures and Handbooks
11:00 a.m. – 12:00 p.m.
Presenter: Joshua Viau
Is your employee handbook stuck in the 80s, 90s or early 2000s? If so, it may be time for an update. An outdated handbook can create potential risks for employers and convert what should be your best friend into your worst enemy. Do your policies address the use of devices while driving? Allow the company to view personal e-mail accounts accessed through company equipment or address the use of social media? Take into account the changes to leave laws? This seminar will assist you in ensuring that your employee handbook complies with the law.
