Union Elections in Massachusetts Don’t Surprise Boston Managing Partner

Boston Managing Partner Joe Ambash was quoted in the Boston Business Journal article “In Mass., Management Loses Union Elections Three-Quarters of the Time.” This article reviews a Fisher Phillips analysis on nationwide union elections. In April 2015, the National Labor Relations Board changed several federal labor rules allowing unions to hold elections in a timelier manner. According to Fisher Phillips’ analysis, the union victory rate nationally did not rise after the new ruling, but more elections took place in two weeks or less, and like Massachusetts, management lost about 75 percent or more.

Joe attributes Massachusetts’ high union win rate to the popularity of labor unions in the state. He said, “Because Massachusetts is a heavily unionized state, I would expect a slightly higher win rate for unions in Massachusetts.”
