Unemployment Considerations as Employees Decide Whether to Return to Work

In an interview with Money.com, Bob Robenalt discusses unemployment considerations as employees decide whether to return to work amid remaining concerns about the COVID-19 pandemic. The article describes that the CARES Act has created a situation in which some employees are earning more money on unemployment than they previously were at their jobs, especially since the Act tacks on an additional $600-per-week payment. These unemployment payments have, for some, disincentivized the option to return to work while also inviting the potential for fraud. Bob warns that even though unemployment may be attractive right now, it is certainly not an invitation to lie. He notes that officials are going to take a close look at individuals “who might try to get this benefit even if they have work made available for them.”
