The Wall Street Journal Turns to Fisher Phillips Attorney for Insight on Disability Laws for Churches

In most industries, federal laws protect workers with disabilities, including mental illness. Church, however, is an exception. In an interview with The Wall Street Journal, Atlanta partner Myra Creighton explains that the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) doesn’t apply to faith leaders. “In 2012, the Supreme Court ruled in favor of a ‘ministerial exception’ to the ADA,” she said. “It’s religious freedom. Courts don’t want to get into telling churches who they may hire or fire.”
