The article “The Paid Sick Leave Law Applies to Every Employer in California – Even If You Have One Employee” provided an overview of the Korean American Chamber of Commerce's labor and employment law seminar held on August 27th in JJ Grand Hotel, Los Angeles, California. The seminar focused on the Mandatory Paid Sick Leave: AB 1522, a hot issue in the Korean business community this year.
To comply with the new law, Soo said to put a poster notifying employees of their right, calculate and track each employee’s sick leaves meticulously, and notify employees of their remaining sick leaves on paystubs.This law applies to all employers in California, even for businesses with only one employee. She explained ‘accrual method’ and ‘front load method’ to calculate the sick leaves, and said that the employers’ existing sick leave policies or PTO policies may be used as long as they comply with the minimum requirements under the new law.
