The Facebook Footprint

Phoenix attorney Shayna Balch was quoted in the Scottsdale Business and Life article "The Facebook Footprint." In the past year the National Labor Relations Board has had more than 100 complaints focused on how far company social media policies can go before impeding on an employee's First Amendment Right to free speech. There are several laws currently in place that are specifically focused on protecting workers online. Although younger generations entering the workforce are willing to fight for their right to use social media in the workplace, Shayna advises caution. She said, "While the law is catching up, a rule of thumb all generations should use when talking about their office or with their coworkers online if you wouldn't say it around the water cooler or in the break room, don't say it online where it lives forever."
