The AP Taps Denver Workplace Safety Partner for Insights on the CDC’s Latest Mask Guidance

News

5.20.21

In an interview with the Associated Press, Kristin White discusses the CDC’s latest mask guidance and how it impacts employers and their workplaces. Kristin explains that employers are legally permitted to ask about employee vaccination status, and she encourages employers to ask for proof rather than rely on the honor system. She also warns employers to refrain from interrogating workers about why they are or are not wearing masks as this line of questioning raises privacy concerns. Kristin notes that there are many reasons why employees might continue to wear masks and explains that some of the employees may be wearing a mask because they have a disability and cannot get vaccinated while others may just feel more comfortable wearing a mask. Finally, she recommends that employers have a written policy that prevents employees from asking each other why they’re wearing a face covering.
