Should Boston Employers Check Temperatures?

Josh Nadreau recently spoke with the Boston Business Journal about complications and legal issues surrounding testing employee temperatures. He recommends employers set up temperature checking stations to give employees some semblance of privacy, so co-workers can’t hear that they’re running a fever. Additionally, he advises employers who are checking hourly workers to try to be lenient about time spent in line while waiting for temperature readings. “If someone is in line waiting to get their temperature checked for 15 minutes, you shouldn’t be in a position where you’re going to discipline that person for being late.” Otherwise, he says, “employers may risk a lawsuit.”
