San Francisco Chronicle Interviews Partner on Cal/OSHA Extending COVID Precaution Rules into Next Year

In an interview with The San Francisco Chronicle, Ben Ebbink weighs in on the future of Cal/OSHA’s workplace safety rules around COVID. The agency recently voted to extend current rules, but experts say there may be a looming showdown next year on whether to create more permanent regulations.

While the board is said to be considering alternate proposals, some opposed by labor proponents, Ben said those plans would require employers to incorporate state and federal health guidance into their more general injury and illness prevention plans, instead of waiting on the board to make decisions which can be a slow process.

“The experience of COVID has shown there is a lot of merit to a more flexible approach,” he said.
