In the Daily Journal article “Governor suspended law requiring notice for mass layoffs,” San Diego Partner David B. Monks comments on Gov. Gavin Newsom’s order to suspend California’s WARN Act, which requires employers give workers notice before massive layoffs.
David explains that Gov. Newsom did not go as far as some employers wanted, but his decision is an effort to strike a balance between employers and workers. Despite the order suspending the act, David notes that employers still have to provide written notice about how to apply for state benefits, such as unemployment.
