“Fifty years ago, universities would have come out and said, ‘Public safety is not what we do — that’s not our core mission,” said Scott. “The ever-evolving and expanding mission of the university now includes some level of being a protector.”
“Are these differences radically bringing down instances of crime that affect members of the university community? The answer is I don’t know,” Scott said. “But what you may be getting is more resources directed at the investigation and ultimately the arrest and the prosecution.”
