Partners Address Important Tip Credit Considerations for QSRs

Publication

5.16.23

Partners Courtney Leyes and Emily Litzinger co-authored the fourth installment of their QSR Magazine column addressing employment law questions specific to the restaurant industry. In this particular article, the hospitality gurus discuss how QSRs can evaluate if a tip credit is right for their operation. They explain how "over the last decade, the U.S. Department of Labor (USDOL) has progressively narrowed the use of tip credits and has made several public statements hinting that the practice is disfavored and will likely be eliminated entirely." The co-authors provide important considerations for QSRs contemplating the use of tip credits, and they describe how these QSRs can avoid some of the most common mistakes when it comes to the laws and rules surrounding the use of tip credits.
