In his original interview with Corporate Counsel, Howard Mavity discussed what companies were doing to prepare for workplace disruptions related to COVID-19, and now, weeks into the pandemic, he provides the publication with an update on the steps U.S. employers and in-house counsel have been taking to minimize the legal and/or financial risks to their businesses.
In the article, Howard explains that questions and concerns from in-house counsel have shifted focus from keeping their businesses open to a second round of worker safety issues. He goes on to share his insights on a variety of workplace safety topics, and he also touches on the next wave of concerns for many employers as they start to consider bringing employees back to work. He notes that in “hard-hit areas like New York City, some employers are already struggling with employees who are not ill but who are afraid to return to the workplace, a problem that might soon affect more employers as the federal and state governments move closer to trying to ‘reopen’ the economy.”
