Wendy McGuire Coats and Ilanit Fischler authored the article, "Paid Parental Leave – A Primer & A Prediction," featured in WCR. In the article, the duo discuss the current and future state of paid paternal leave.
"Paid parental leave enables employees to take paid time off work for the birth of a child. Paid parental leave laws and policies differ in duration of leave, eligibility requirements, reimbursement amounts, and financing mechanisms.
The United States is the only industrialized nation that does not provide paid parental leave to new parents on a nationwide scale.1 In 2016, only 13% of private sector workers had access to paid parental leave.2 Of those with access to paid family leave, employees in the finance and insurance industries were the most common.3 By contrast, workers in the construction and hospitality industries had the lowest levels of access to paid family leave."
