Lorie Maring was quoted in the Phoenix Business Journal on June 25, 2015. The article “Obamacare Wins, So Employers Start Paying Attention – or Get Penalized” discussed how in light of the U.S. Supreme Court upholding the key provisions of the Affordable Care Act, employers now must start paying attention to the requirements, or face penalties.
Lorie was quoted on what this ruling means for employers, moving forward.
Many employers — especially those in hospitality and agriculture — were waiting on the sidelines for the King v. Burwell decision, said Lorie.
"What this really means is that it's time to pay attention and really devote some resources to making sure that you're in compliance with the Affordable Care Act," Lorie said. "The penalties are here to stay and it's time for companies to take a hard look at their ACA compliance strategy going forward."
Lorie said a contrary decision would have been a really big deal for Arizona employers.
"It would mean the penalty for not offering insurance would have been undermined," she said. "It would have gone away."
