As the world grows smaller, lawyers are frequently becoming more involved in handling local matters for clients based outside the United States. This program will discuss various challenges in communicating legal concepts and cultural differences that inhibit the delivery of effective legal advice to these clients. Discussion will highlight frequent glitches in communication of basic concepts like privilege, employment at-will, contingency fees, the adversarial system, jury trials, discovery, e-discovery, local and state law implications as well a practical advice for handling many cultural differences.
