Atlanta partner Bert Brannen spoke at a "Lunch & Learn" hosted by the Haralson County Chamber of Commerce on September 21. At the event, featured in an article in The Haralson Gateway-Beacon, Bert addressed some common mistakes employers make regarding employee relations that could lead to civil or criminal penalties. He said one of the newer fields of law protecting employee rights is behavior in social media conversations. He referred to new National Labor Relations Board guidelines that protect employees who discuss workplace issues on social media. Bert also discussed new immigration laws and the large fines employers can be charged with for failure to comply. He said violators can face $1,100 fines for minor offenses, such as using a P.O. Box instead of a complete street address.
