Bob Miller was quoted in an article entitled “Legal Pot Now A High Priority Among Contractors,” published on January 14, 2014 on the Engineering News-Record website.
The article warns contractor employees in Colorado and Washington about the risk of smoking marijuana, even if they do it away from work on their own time.
Both states legalized private marijuana use in November 2012, and Colorado began retail sales of marijuana on January 1, 2014.
However, the message to employees from contractor-employers is to avoid using marijuana because construction jobsites are inherently risky places.
Attorneys advising contractors offer basically the same advice.
"Marijuana is still illegal under federal law, so, for now, stick with your current drug-use policies and procedures as long as they are carefully written," suggested Bob.
