Eric Uhl, a partner in the New England office, participated in a round table discussion that appeared in the July/August 2011 issue of Maine Ahead Magazine. The topic of discussion was "Labor Law Liabilities." Although litigation is something most employers want to avoid, the panel was asked if there are times when going to trial is a good idea. Eric said: "The best way to address legal problems is to avoid them in the first place. Certainly, in the vast majority of instances, the lawsuit that is never filed is the best defense to expensive litigation and a potential adverse jury verdict. Employers can avoid litigation by staying ahead of their problems through periodical compliance audits, policy and practice reviews, and seeking advice before taking action."
