What will the government do to crack down on the employers of illegal aliens? The answer is the I-9 audit. For about 20 years, companies have been required to establish and record their employees' eligibility to work in the United States. This process is accomplished by reviewing certain documents and recording the information on the I-9.
It is clear that I-9 audits are quickly going to become a fact of life for employers, large or small. Your business is subject to an audit, whether you employ any immigrants or not. Your business is subject to fines whether you employ any illegal aliens or not. You need to start reviewing your I-9s and getting them in shape.
