Based on an insider's 15 years of experience working in the California Legislature on labor policy, this session will provide a "behind-the-scenes" look at how labor and employment legislation is made in the Golden State. Going beyond the high school civics class version of "how a bill becomes a law," this session will provide HR professionals and others with an unprecedented look at what really shapes legislative policy in California around labor and employment issues. Attendees will learn where labor proposals come from, who the key players are in Sacramento that shape labor and employment policy, how the process "really" works, and why employers and HR professionals face such a daunting task in the capitol. More than just the typical summary of new laws, this session will give an inside look at the "why" and "how" those laws are made.
