In an age where data is seemingly collected about everyone and everything, advocates on both sides say that tracking, collecting and managing data on employees is tricky. Usama Kahf spoke with Protocol about an effort underway in California to allow workers to access the data their employers may have on file. If employees have free access to the data collected on them by their employer, he says, it could become burdensome for employers, who, on top of responding to consumer requests, could be forced to respond to workers' data requests. And that could ultimately open them up to spurious litigation.
