Discriminatory and hostile work environments can, at times, be treated as a health and safety issue. Recent cases allege that discriminatory symbols of racial animus are showing up in the workplace. In an interview with Bloomberg Law, Atlanta partner Howard Mavity says, “These symbols should be treated as a health and safety issue. They indicate a longer pattern of not only a hostile work environment but also of bulling, which is tied to many workplace violence issues that do not involve a fatality and thus get less attention.” Employers are urged to offer workers training on diversity and inclusion.
