The Houston office of Fisher Phillips, a leading management-side labor and employment law firm, is one of the offices leading the firm’s pursuit to drastically reduce the use of paper when it relocates to One Shell Plaza in Downtown Houston on June 1.
The newly remodeled 9,097 square foot workplace will be environmentally friendly with a highly efficient attorney-per-square foot footprint. Virtually all records, with the exception of certain original documents that must be maintained in paper form, will be stored electronically. In addition to the environmental conversation benefits, reducing the use of paper allows Fisher Phillips to save on real estate and construction costs by reducing the square footage of the office and avoiding expenses related to the required fortification of office floors to support all the weight of the paper files. In lieu of a traditional file room, Fisher Phillips lawyers will utilize case rooms with shelving for work papers, exhibits and other material needed for trials, depositions, or arbitrations.
“Being mindful of overhead costs is very important to Fisher Phillips,” said Stephen J. Roppolo, managing partner of the Houston office. “If we can be ‘green’ at the same time, so much the better. We are excited to be an early prototype office for our firm. Our new space will allow us to accommodate our recent growth, while at the same time increasing flexibility to accommodate additional lawyers,” Roppolo added. The Houston office, which currently has 20 employees and has doubled the number of attorneys in the past eighteen months, is ranked on the Houston Business Journal’s Largest Houston-Area Labor & Employment Law Firms.
