Fisher Phillips Attorney Talks to SHRM About Potential Federal Minimum Wage Hike

The U.S. House of Representatives has passed a bill that would increase the minimum wage. Atlanta attorney, Caroline Brown, spoke with SHRM about how employers are likely to respond if the bill is eventually made law. According to Brown, some employers may offset the cost of a minimum-wage increase by cutting other benefits. Specifically, she said: "There are many jobs where the hourly rate is only one component of the employee's compensation and benefits package.” She continued, "In jurisdictions that have increased the minimum wage or limited the tip credit, we have seen employers increase menu prices or add service charges to bills.”
