Independent contractors and other “gig workers” who were traditionally ineligible for unemployment benefits are now eligible for assistance under the CARES Act. In an interview with Bloomberg Law, Rich Meneghello explains that including gig workers in relief efforts has the potential to benefit employers. He notes that “[m]aking unemployment compensation available to gig workers during the pandemic means companies will have a bigger pool of workers, and thus get more business.”
