In an interview with SHRM, Cheryl Behymer, co-chair of Fisher Phillips’ Pay Equity practice, explains why employers should prepare now to submit demographic data about their workforces. Business with 100 or more employees and some federal contractors with at least 50 employees must submit an annual EEO-1 form, which asks for information from the previous year about the number of employees who worked for the business, sorted by job category, race, ethnicity and gender. The EEO-1 filing is very detailed and employers need to figure out how to capture the data correctly, noted Cheryl. She recommends that employers give themselves adequate time so that if they are working with a third-party vendor to receive their data, they have a good opportunity to review prior to the filing.
